In Memory of Pat Hume: Mother of Our Peace

Last week marked the fifth anniversary of the death of one of Ireland's greatest peacemakers, Pat Hume (née Hone), who died on September 2, 2021 at the age of 83. An oak tree was planted at St Eugene's Cathedral close to where one had been planted in memory of her husband John.

The Culdaff-born poet Deirdre Devine was a long-time admirer of Pat Hume and commemorated her in this poem from her collection Carrying Light - A Life in Poetry, published by Colmcille Press earlier this year.
